Factories, manufacturing plants, refineries, power plants, shipyards, and many other industrial facilities create essential equipment, products, clothes, and goods that support every facet of life. Outdoor industrial areas pose many safety issues, but one of the most often overlooked is mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are not only annoying and distracting, they can transmit dangerous and deadly diseases to workers, leading to potential absences, less efficient operations, and hurt revenues.
It takes just one bite to contract a mosquito-borne disease. This ease of transmissibility and the presence of mosquitoes on nearly every continent make them the most dangerous species in the world—accounting for more than 17% of all infectious diseases. In the United States, it’s most common to encounter West Nile virus (WNv), Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), Chikungunya, and Zika.
